Hotels in Lanzarote Continued

Visiting Lanzarote is a great experience as it can offer a relaxing holiday on the beach or a more sight seeing style of holiday due to all of the sights on offer.

After deciding on where you want to stay, be it one of the many hotels on offer or perhaps a villa or apartment, you can then get down to sorting out where you will want to visit. There are so many attractions that vary in type so much that you will never be lost for something to do or see.

Another attraction that is well-worth a visit is Jameos del Agua. This is a volcanic cave system that was formed by the eruptions from the Corona volcano on the island. This occurred around three or four thousand years ago and has since profited from the original imagination of Cesar Manrique, a famous artist born on the island. Manrique has transformed the area from a hole in the ground to a little piece of paradise that now includes a natural auditorium which is famed for its fantastic acoustics, a swimming pool, gardens and a restaurant that fit seamlessly into their volcanic setting.

Perhaps one of the most fascinating things about Jameos del Agua is that the underground salt water Lagoon is home to a species of small, blind, albino crabs that are found nowhere else in the world.

Due to the volcanic activity on the island of Lanzarote, there are many strange phenomena that have occurred. One such phenomenon is El Golfo which is a semi-circular volcanic crater that is filled with sea-water that has reached the lagoon by filtering through the black sand dividing it from the sea.

Its fantastic green colour is a result of green algae that lives in the water. The green contrasting with the black sand beach and strange rock formations makes El Golfo a fantastic sight.

Mirador del Rio is described as a restaurant with a view and with there being so much available to see and visit in Lanzarote, this may not be enough to tempt you there. However, this is far from simply a restaurant and a view, from the top of Mirador del Rio is a sight that will never be forgotten. This stunning view is also the backdrop to the restaurant where you can enjoy a meal or a simple snack whilst gazing out over the sea and the neighbouring island.

A great way to learn more about the waters surrounding Lanzarote is to visit the Lanzarote Aquariun in Costa Teguise. This is the largest aquarium in the Canary Islands and contains a million litres of water which is distributed between 33 tanks that show off hundreds of different underwater species which live in the surrounding waters, such as the triggerfish, globe fishes, poisonous fire dragons and cleaning crabs.

Visitors to the aquarium can also observe a large variety of warm water sharks that swim in the main tank full of 400,000 litres from a submarine tunnel. A popular attraction at the aquarium for children are the three touching pools where they can touch the marine species swimming in them such as, sea urchins, starfish and sea cucumbers. This enables them to learn a lot about the sea life’s anatomy and way of life.

As well as the aquarium showing people the wonders of the underwater world, it also takes the opportunity to inform its visitors on the levels of damaging rubbish that is polluting the ocean. This is shown via a “rubbish aquarium” that has been set up to show the extreme effects that the waste is having on submarine species. It is a small recreation of the current state of some parts of the waters around Lanzarote’s coast.

If you are a professional diver, it is possible to dive in the tanks with the Sharks, Rays and Groupers. This dive will last 20 minutes and will cost 250 Euros which is around 200 Pounds.

Travelling to Lanzarote is an experience to remember and one that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. A real plus point for the island is that it has not allowed any high rise buildings to be built, meaning that the views from hotels in Lanzarote will not be spoiled, so now is definitely a good time to book your visit. In order to find reasonable accommodation on the island, it is a good idea to compare hotels in Lanzarote on the internet.
