Granada City Get Away in a Great 3 Star Hotel

My husband and 2 year old little boy visited the city of Granada for my husbands 30th birthday last year. We stayed at a great little 3 star hotel in the city centre close to the old city, with views of the Alhambra Palace and in the midst of Granada’s equivalent to Oxford Street. Not to mention surrounded by many fine Tapas bars.

The exterior or the Puerta de las Granadas Hotel is old, traditional and very quaint. The interior is modern, chic, and excellent value for money. The rooms are a little small, but very clean. Our room was also extremely cosy as outside was freezing (it was February)! The room facilities consisted of all modern cons such as television, and telephone, there was an en-suite bathroom (with very powerful and hot shower), everything you would expect really. The receptionist was friendly. The breakfast was a help yourself buffet of croissants and pastries, fresh fruit, toast, cereals, and fruit juice, teas, and coffees. The breakfast room was also very modern and clean.

Our room had a fabulous view of the Moorish World Heritage Alhambra Palace (a view not to be beaten in Granada City). Incidentally, on the day that we visited the Alhambra Palace we took the bus (I wouldn’t recommend walking) and the bus stops right outside the hotel, you cannot ask more than that on an early start sight seeing. Also on the road of the hotel were souvenir shops, and a bar. We did not have any noise at night.

I don’t recall the Puerta de las Granadas Hotel having any communal facilities such as a swimming pool, or gym, but that was not what we went to Granada city for. My only complaint would be we found it very hard to find we were driving around windy Spanish streets, full of people walking across the road and we found it quite difficult with the cities ‘one way’ system, in addition the hotel does not have a car park of its own, so we had to park in a multi-storey public car park close by, and walk a few streets to the Puerta de las Granadas Hotel. However unless you are staying in a 5 star hotel it seemed to us when we were booking the hotel that it is rare to get a car park in Granada city.

When visiting Granada city I would highly recommend doing the following things:

• Bus Tour of City Sights

• Alhambra Palace

• Sierra Nevada Ski Resort

• Strolling through the Granada Old Town

• Shopping at fabulous Spanish clothes stores

• Enjoying the famous free Tapas (yes a free plate of Tapas whenever you buy a glass of wine)

Overall our holiday in Granada city was one to remember and I really enjoyed staying at the Puerta de las Granadas Hotel.
