Aruba is known for a few things: beautiful beaches, friendly people, the food and casinos. Many first or second timers miss some of the treasures of Aruba. The Ostrich Farm and Aruba Aloe are 2 wonderful places to visit.
The Ostrich Farm
The ostrich farm is located along the road on the way to the Natural Bridge. You can take a tour of the farm (there are numerous ostrich), see their huge eggs, feed and learn about them, shop and have lunch in the open gazebo. The gazebo is a site in itself. It is a huge open-air area with the store in the middle and bar at the end with tables/chairs arranged around it. The low chairs are especially comfortable. The kids can sit on the huge wood-carved hippos.
What to eat? Ostrich burgers of course! These are delicious and they are not made from the ostrich that you see. The pumpkin soup is also a treat. The small shopping area has some very unique items including decorated ostrich eggs (blown out of course), noise makers/instruments, wood carvings, wall tapestries and more. Lunch is from 11-4 daily and tours run from 9am-4pm. Tour cost: Adults - $12, Children - $6.
Aruba Aloe
Aruba aloe products are out of this world and when you buy them in Aruba they are a fraction of the retail cost on the internet. When you arrive you can take a free tour and see how the products are made or go directly into the store. The tour includes a walk through the aloe fields. Many times there is an employee extracting aloe in the front. Product range includes shampoo, hand soap (my favorite), hand and face creams, tanning lotions, sun burn products, lip protection and more.
